A little History

The Hampshire Special Constabulary is over 175 years old and dates back to the Special Constabulary Act 1831 so we are not a new idea.

The role of the Special

Special Constables are not full time Officers but citizens who voluntarily give up some of their own time to assist their Regular Colleagues. Contrary to popular belief Special Constables have the same powers of arrest as their Regular Colleagues so if you commit a crime you will be arrested by the Special. We wear the same uniform and carry the same equipment as the Regulars.
