:: 22 October 2003 - Andrew Hunter talks about Pack
Lane in the Gazette
Quote from Wednesday's Gazette Extra:
"A constituent reacted cynically when the council said that the bollards
in Pack Lane, Basingstoke, had been sited 'after careful consideration', and
decided to spend time monitoring a section of the road. During peak hours, 91
per cent of pedestrians totally ignore clearly marked bollard crossings. Later
in the evening, children cross from the playing fields in an area where no bollards
have been installed. It transpires that in Pack Lane, where bollards have been
installed at a rate of 36 per mile, most are sited where virtually no-one has
a need to cross the road, and none has been installed where most people actually
cross the road. It is clear to see that something is not quite right with this."
Published Wednesday October 22 in Andrew Hunters column in the Gazette.
:: 7 October 2003 - Kempshott
Kourier Selective Reporting?
After one regular poster on our messageboard found that the Kempshott Kourier
wouldn't link to the information he posts at Kempshott.com, he asked for
an explanation. The Editor's reply makes for very interesting reading, a couple
of snippets follow:
"I felt it would be silly for me to do this whilst in the process of
putting together a webpage for the Kempshott Kourier."
"I have other sources which tell me that the kempshott.com webpage
is inaccurate with their reporting on the local issues in Kempshott."

email conversation are here.

Improvements are proposed for the Heather Way play area, following local councillors
consultations. They propose a 1 metre high rail fence around the play area,
a safer surface for the seesaw and installation of swing barriers.
These works are required as the play area is near to a road, the seesaw is
currently on a tarmac surface and children are at risk of colliding with moving
swings.
Work is expected to commence from September 2002. For more information contact
Ian Harris on 01256 845712 or Noel Preece on 01256 845610.
